There are about 4 -5 types we get here, but they feed on human and pet food, and can leave an offensive odor. They can also passively transport microbes on their body surfaces including those that are potentially dangerous to humans. Cockroaches have been shown to be linked with allergic reactions in humans.
They are wingless, with mouthparts adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood. Fleas are external parasites, living off blood including dogs, cats and humans.
Breeding onset is at about 50 days of age in both females and males, although females may have their first estrus at 25 - 40 days. Mice are polyestrous and breed year round. Mice cause structural damage and spread diseases through their parasites and feces.
Carpenter ants for example can damage wood used in the construction of buildings. They can leave behind a sawdust-like material called frass that provides clues to their nesting location.
Rats are typically distinguished from mice by their size; rats are generally large muroid rodents, while mice are generally small muroid rodents. They are very distructive and like mice cause structural damage and spread diseases through their parasites and feces.
There are a number of spiders here in Georgia, the brown recluse is one of the nastiest, it bite can result in necrosis or systemic effects. Even if you're lucky, do you want to chance it.
Wasps, Mud daubers, we've all seen the muddy nests of mud daubers and are a real nuisance to homeowners, with the wasps themselves being sometimes aggressive and dangerous.
They inhabit moist areas, requiring a relative humidity between 75% and 95%. They can be found in basements, bathrooms, garages, closets, and attics. The lifespan of a silverfish varies from 2 to 8 years.
Unlike many other ants, which bite and then spray acid on the wound, fire ants bite only to get a grip and then sting and inject a toxic alkaloid venom called solenopsin, a compound from the class of piperidines. For humans, this is a painful sting.
All known scorpion species possess venom and use it primarily to kill or paralyze their prey so that it can be eaten; in general, it is fast-acting, allowing for effective prey capture. It is also used as a defense against predators.
